Who can participate in AHOP?

​Participating AHOP homebuyers must meet all of the following requirements:

  • ​​Live or work in the City of Antioch
  • Are first time homebuyers (did not own a home in the past three years)
  • Purchase a home in the City of Antioch
  • Have good credit – including a FICO score that must be higher than 620
  • Must be a low income homebuyer whose combined household incomes does not exceed 80% of the area’s median income at the home is purchased.  (See income table below for 2019 maximum income allowances)


​The Antioch Home Ownership Program (AHOP) expands homeownership opportunities for homebuyers who live and/or work in the City of Antioch to purchase a home in Antioch. 

How Does AHOP Work?
AHOP will provide homebuyers guidance, support, and access to resources and services to become a homeowner.  AHOP will assist you to:

  • Obtain homebuyer education and one on one financial counseling
  • Secure financial and homebuyer know-how and coaching to get on track to purchase a home
  • Access homebuyer downpayment assistance subsides including​
    • ​​The AHOP Downpayment Assistance Loan Program
    • The AHOP Closing Cost Assistance Loan Program
    • The Federal Home Loan Bank WISH Program

​​​​​​​What Financial Subsidies May Be Available for Homebuyers?

​AHOP subsidies can increase the homebuyers purchase price and/or to lower monthly ownership costs. Eligible AHOP homebuyers may be able to access a mix of the following subsidies. Some of the subsidies referenced below may be combined to expand the amount of financial benefits homebuyers receive.


  • AHOP Programs –funded and delivered through the City of Antioch
    • AHOP Down Payment Assistance Program (AHOP DALP) – up to 20% of the purchase price not to exceed $40,000.
    • AHOP Closing Cost Assistance Program (AHOP CCLP) – up to 4% of the purchase price not to exceed $12,000
  • Additional subsidy programs offered through other sources
    • Federal Home Loan Bank WISH Program – a forgivable loan of up to $22,000.  Neither BAAHA nor the City of Antioch maintains control on the availability of WISH Funds.  Best efforts will be made to combine these funds when they are available.
    • Contra Costa County Mortgage Credit Certificate Program (MCC) – a program that expands the amount of tax savings you can secure through owning your home.  Neither BAAHA nor the City of Antioch maintains control the availability of MCC allocations. Best efforts will be made to combine MCC allocations when they are available. AHOP participants must work with a MCC approved and participating lender

​All AHOP participants will be required to have a certificate of completion for a six hour HUD certified homebuyer education course prior to submitting an AHOP application to BAAHA.  The City of Antioch is scheduling to conduct its first HUD homebuyer education workshop sometime in February. 


Please make certain to register with BAAHA to receive updates on upcoming homebuyer education seminars AHOP participants may secure a Homebuyer Education Certificate of completion from any HUD approved organization. A list of such organizations can be obtained at BAAHA’s website: http://www.myhomegateway.org/hud-certified-counseling-agencies.html

Informational Workshop

AHOP applicants must complete a HUD certified education course and provide a copy of their HUD Homebuyer Education Certificate at the time they submit their Program Application. 


AHOP applications will be made available on the BAAHA website after the first AHOP Homebuyer Education Seminar is conducted – to be scheduled in March of 2020.
